The practice
Put down for a while the constant background attention to the body — how it feels, what it needs, where it ends. With that set aside and nothing else in view, hold firmly: I am everywhere. Stay with it until it stops being a sentence you are repeating.
What it works on
The two halves are one instruction. The conviction cannot take hold while the body is being monitored, and the body cannot be set down without something to hold in its place.
Notes
- The verse promises joy from this one, and most people do find it warm rather than austere.
Practise gently
Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
