Chanting & japa

One sound, repeated

Japa is repetition. You choose a mantra, keep it slow, and let the count take care of itself. Six mantras below, each with Devanagari, transliteration, a plain meaning and a mala counter that marks every quarter of the round.

Slow beats many

Chanting is a contemplative practice, not a treatment, and no mantra on this site is offered as a cure or a guaranteed outcome. Chant seated and still. Stop if the throat hurts, the breath shortens, or you feel light-headed.

Six mantras

Choose one and stay with it

Depth comes from returning to the same mantra, not from collecting several. Pick one that you can say comfortably and keep it for a few weeks.
