Before you try this

Stronger than dharana 79 and carrying the same warnings. Not for a day when you are already unsettled, and not for anyone who finds apocalyptic imagery distressing.

The practice

As in the previous dharana, but let the fire take the entire world rather than only the body — the room, the city, the ground, everything, until there is nothing anywhere that has not been consumed. Then rest, undivided, in what is left.

What it works on

The escalation is deliberate. Having loosened the identification with the body, the text applies the same solvent to the world the body was located in, and says the highest state follows.

Notes

  • Attempt this only after the body version is familiar and reliably ends in calm.

Practise gently

Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
