Bright Breath

A lightly alert equal rhythm for daytime practice—without forceful pumping, rapid breathing, or retention.

What is Bright Breath?

Bright Breath is Shoonyaka’s gentle daytime equal-breath pattern. It uses a quiet three-count inhale and three-count exhale. It is not Kapalabhati or Bhastrika: there is no abdominal pumping, forceful exhale, fast repetition, or breath hold.

How to practise

  1. Sit upright in a stable, comfortable position and allow the breath to remain quiet.
  2. Inhale through the nose for three comfortable counts.
  3. Exhale through the nose for three comfortable counts.
  4. Keep the abdomen relaxed; do not pump, snap, or push the breath.
  5. Practise briefly, then stop counting and notice the natural breath in stillness.

Possible benefits

  • May offer a simple daytime reset.
  • May support alert, embodied attention.
  • May provide a gentler alternative to forceful breathing techniques.
Cautions
  • This is not Kapalabhati or Bhastrika; do not pump the abdomen, exhale forcefully, or breathe rapidly.
  • Avoid deliberately energising breath when dizzy, acutely anxious, pregnant, or managing uncontrolled blood pressure, cardiac, seizure, or respiratory conditions without qualified guidance.
  • Stop immediately and return to ordinary breathing if light-headed, breathless, panicked, painful, or unwell.

Practise gently

Shoonyaka offers educational wellbeing guidance, not medical advice or treatment. Practise seated safely, never while driving, in water, or operating equipment. People under 18 and anyone recovering from illness or surgery should seek guidance from a qualified healthcare professional before unfamiliar breathwork.
