When Energy Runs Out

In moments of real depletion, the mind dissolves of its own accord. Use them.

The practice

There are moments of genuine emptiness — after exhaustion, at the end of something long, when you simply do not know. The mind stops in them without being asked. When one arrives, do not immediately restore normal service. Stay in the stopping and let it be the practice.

What it works on

The text notices something most instruction misses: the state meditation aims at also occurs by accident, in depletion. Nothing needs to be produced on these occasions, only recognised before the machinery starts again.

Notes

  • The moment after finishing a large piece of work is the most reliable one.
  • This is about ordinary tiredness and not-knowing, not about being unwell.

Practise gently

Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
