The practice

Take the qualities the tradition gives to the divine — knowing everything, able to do anything, present everywhere. Hold firmly that these are your own qualities, not another being’s. Do not soften it into a metaphor and do not inflate it into a boast. Hold it plainly.

What it works on

A demanding contemplation and easy to misread. It is not a claim about the person with your name and history; it is a claim about what that person is a local appearance of. Held correctly it produces humility rather than grandiosity.

Notes

  • If it starts to feel like self-congratulation, it has been misapplied to the personality. Return to dharana 92, which is the safer neighbour.

Practise gently

Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
