The practice
Every so often a sense becomes unusually vivid on its own — a colour is suddenly saturated, a sound unusually clear, a smell arrives whole. The instant you notice it, stop and remain in that heightened awareness rather than in the thing that occasioned it.
What it works on
These moments happen to everyone daily and are almost always spent immediately. The dharana consists of nothing but not spending them, which is why it needs no posture, no time and no preparation.
Notes
- They pass in a second or two. Catching one is the whole skill.
Practise gently
Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
