The practice
Take the five descriptions — eternal, present everywhere, resting on nothing, pervading all things, ruling everything — and hold them continuously, meditating on them at every moment and in relation to whatever is in front of you. The verse says this brings about what one is after.
What it works on
A contemplation with a fixed text, which makes it unusually portable. The list is short enough to memorise in a minute and long enough to occupy the mind properly, and it is the same list dharana 39 asks you to find in space.
Notes
- Learn the five words. Turning them over needs no book and no cushion.
Practise gently
Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
